A community development corporation with a veteran-first mission
Founded in Detroit and built by people who served, MDHS turns housing programs into completed projects, closed loans, and lasting careers.
Our mission
To build stronger communities by helping veterans and families secure safe, accessible, and sustainable housing while creating pathways to skilled careers.
Our vision
A Michigan where every veteran has a home that fits their needs, a career that sustains their family, and a community that stands behind them.
Our promise
No veteran navigates the system alone. A named navigator stays with each family from first call through final inspection.
From a single block to a statewide model
What began as volunteer weekend repairs on Detroit's east side is now a full-service housing, construction management, and workforce organization.
- 2009
Founded to promote financial literacy and facilitate housing placement.
- 2011
Adopted A Block to perform a neighborhood clean-up.
- 2022
Partnered with The Home Depot Foundation and HD Team Members to do an exterior beautification project.
- 2026
Revised our Mission and Vision to reflect our renewed focus on Veteran services.
